Chaos Chronicle
edition 3
released March 5th, 1990
an
International Network of Chaos
Publication

Publisher - THE SHARK/INC
Editor - MASTER KRACKER/INC
Chaos Chronicle (CC) is a monthly
newspaper made for the upper class of
the Commodore World. INC feels that we
are the most qualified group to do this
because we have contributed so much and
have been around for such a long time.
This newspaper is a PRO-INC newspaper,
so if you see articles written that
support INC, now you know why. Someone
once said that if you don't like
something, change it. So we have, and
this newspaper is what we feel a
newspaper should be. We know other
groups have failed to bring you a good
USA newspaper/magazine and we also know
you are tired of seeing European
magazines rank us! That is why INC
shall do their best job providing you
with a quality newspaper. This version
of CC is typed in 40 columns so we
recommend viewing it with Chaos Reader.

The All-New Chaos Reader
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-
As you know from last month,
Stormbringer made a sequential file
reader for Chaos Chronicle. Version
1.1 is even a better version than
before. This one includes two tunes
from Tomcat, which are both fully
enjoyable (Stormy likes the first, I
like the second). Now you are also
able to view the directory, and an un-
noticable bug in the previous version
is fixed. One of the cool things about
this reader is that you can read C.C.
off of other drives besides device 8.
So make sure to put ',8' after your
filename.
One other quick note here: I know a
lot of people were not happy when they
saw C.C. lynxed. I did this for two
reasons. First, in January, a lot of
people were only spreading the 80
column version and when they viewed it
on their screen, everything was off-
centered. Second, I wanted everyone to
see how cool the reader was. This
month however, I am just spreading the
40 column version. If you want the 80
column version, then call the INC BBS
to download it.

What Is A Canadian Pirate Anyway?
By Stormbringer/Exodus
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-
Ask an American or a European to
tell you everything he knows about
Canadian pirates and you probably won't
get much. There's a good reason for
it, too. The fact is that there are
barely any that have become elite in
the world. I think the problem is that
most Canadians use the fact that they
are Canadian as an excuse for their
lameness.
What I think the worst example of
this is the so-called Canadian
"importing" groups. They just don't
have a good reason to justify slapping
another intro (probably an intro that
they ripped and changed the logo to say
their name) on to a game already
imported or cracked in the USA. Canada
is part of North America, in fact,
Canada and America are quite similar.
We have NTSC computers like Americans,
we have area codes like Americans, we
can call an American board just as
easily as a Canadian one; for all
intents and purposes we might as well
be the 51st state of America. I think
they should realize that we're not a
European country and that just because
Canada is a different country it
doesn't mean you import to it. It'd be
as bad as an American importing to
California.
Somehow, Canadians have managed to
stay lame in this day and age. When
most pirates start out, I'm sure they
do the same lame things like the
Canadian lamers. They stop when they
become more and more elite. For some
reason, Canadian lamers haven't
stopped; importing to Canada seems to
be thriving. I can only suggest
reasons, but I figure they must think
since everyone else in Canada is doing
it, it must be cool. It's like a
little world of their own. For the
most part, its a sea of 0-5 year old
wares boards with games that have three
or more intros on them. They just
don't realize how lame it really is
because they don't seem to see an
alternative.
If they would just stop and take a
look at the rest of the world they
could see how it really should be.
They should realize you import games
from Europe-not from Wild Wares. At
least there is some justification for
importing from Europe. Europe is a
totally different source of games than
American games. These games usually
require an NTSC fix and for that reason
importing from Europe is still
justified. At least you have to do
more to a game then just download it
and spread it. Canadians could do this
(I should know since I've done this
since I was in Mayhem) and also crack
if they really wanted to. American
originals are in Canada just as fast in
the USA. All it takes is just someone
who can crack and an original supplier.
I'm sure if they can pay Americans to
send them wares so that they can
"import" them then they can buy
originals too. (In case you're
wondering I know someone who actually
does receive money from Canadians
begging for any ware they can get).
So there is some potential and a lot
of lameness, but for now this has just
given Canadians a lame reputation. For
the few of us Canadians that have made
it in the rest of the world (myself
included) I think its amazing that we
somehow managed to rise up from the
incredible lameness surrounding us. My
advice to Canadian lamers is to stop
re-releasing wares and start making
legitamate Canadian groups or join a
legitamate USA group. Either way they
will do better.

Cleaning Up the Pirating World
by The Shark
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-
As most of you know, I have been
around in the elite Commodore world for
about 3-4 years. When I first called
around, it was very hard to get on the
ELITE BBSs. What was even harder was
to get a 0-3 day old ware. It took a
lot of work and time to try to get a
game and then spread it to get some
credits. That is when more people
treated the pirate world with some
respect. Today, anyone with a modem
can get the games quick. This is not
right. This has caused many lame
groups to form and release crap. They
do not even think about the shit that
they upload; all they do it for is to
get their name known. I am not going
to point at anyone (Mirage, Mad Hatter,
Empire, ect.) because there are too
many to name. All of these groups are
capable of doing a good job, but they
just do not want to. 2-3 years ago,
this kind of stuff just wasn't
tolerated. I see lamers come out of
nowhere and bag on INC and other groups
that have a reputation for doing well.
2-3 years ago, people just did not do
that because they were afraid that they
would get deleted off of all the good
BBSs. Everyone worked together to get
rid of these lamers. Well, that is
what I think should be done again.
Everyone talks about how cool the C64
scene used to be about 2-3 years ago
with groups like RAD, FBR, and ESI.
That is because they all worked
together to get rid of someone. If one
guy was uploading shit and doing lame
things, he would be deleted off of
every good BBS. Well, my idea is to
reinstate this type of system. Here
are the things I propose:
[1] If you have a well-established
BBS, make it private. I am on two
BBSs that do this and both are my
personal favorites because there
are no lamers to corrupt the
drives and subs. And if someone
wanted on, they would have to know
someone elite to get on, because
the person would have to go
through someone already on the
BBS. This prevents fake accounts,
lamers, and other lame acts.
[2] Deleting 90% of the Canadians on
your BBS. Canadians have done
more damage than you think.
They get the games 3 months later
and try to upload them. Not only
that, but they also import into
their country and rip off all
intros.
[3] Deleting 30% of the Europeans.
2-3 years ago, NO European called
any of the BBSs. We must get rid
of some of these Euros. They
upload junk like 20 different Euro
magazines, NON-NTSCed wares
(which is alright as they are kept
to the Euro Hq BBSes), and d/l
so much that by time they are
through, the 1581 has flames
coming out of it.
[4] Taking all BBS numbers out of
releases if the BBS is well-
established. How many sysops get
calls from some lamer 3 months
after you get the game out saying,
"I just got your ware". If
your BBS is elite enough, you
don't need to put the number in.
[5] Banning wares from groups that
constantly release crap. Such
groups will not stop until more
people ban their wares. If their
wares are being accepted, then
they see no reason to quit
producing it. If every BBS banned
every game from one group, I
guarantee that they would either
die or they would start to try to
get some legitimate releases out.
I am sure there are more things that
can be done to prevent lamers from
increasing, but these 5 points are ones
that must be taken care of now. If not
now, then the C64 will get even worse.

The Cesspool (Rumors and More)
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-
Jimmy Z still plans on putting up
Warez Galore as soon as he receives his
money from an accident he was in.
Although people doubt it will ever be
back up, he is insisting on it and
estimates that it will be up in 3-4
weeks.
T.V. Sports Football is definitely
being released by Cinemaware. The date
of release is unknown, so don't expect
it soon.
Mantronix is suspected to join
Intense very soon.
Tristan Galapoo is in juvenile hall
and is suspected that he was caught for
stealing toys from a toy store. Expect
his new book on the shelves very soon
called "1001 Ways to Get Anally
Assaulted".
One less ripper to pollute the C64:
Ronski is gone for good and he now has
an Amiga now and plans to rip routines
on it.
Excalibur now has a new unused intro
from Eclipse. This is the 3rd intro
from someone not inside Excalibur.
Although X-factor can code, his excuse
is that TMS hasn't taught him yet.
The 615 VMB system is almost dead
for the C64 pirates. The only known
USA groups on the C64 to have a box on
the system are ATC and Exodus.
Candyman seems to offer them to Amiga
and IBM groups in hope that they greet
them.
Exploding Wall was coded by BOD of
Talent.
Overmind and Cavalier have requested
that I do not rag on Excalibur for
X-Factor's mistakes, and that I instead
rag on him. They feel that they were
not part of his mistakes and do not
want to accept any of the slack for it.
Flyboy is expected to quit Fantasy
within the next week.
The new version of UCBBS is expected
in two to three weeks with up to 40 new
improvements.
U.S. Operators supposedly billed
everyone who used it from December and
on. Overmind was one of the pirates to
receive a phone bill. His phone bill
was estimated to be about $3,000 and he
took down his BBS because he was afraid
that they would confiscate his
equipment. Other people suspected of
being billed are Tristan, X-factor,
Technique, and Death Merchant. People
were accusing Executioner of turning
Overmind in, but this was later to be
found not true.
Eclipse claims to have 'originality'
in his demos. Yes, they are original,
but in what country? Ask a European
how long FLEX and DYCP have been done
in Europe. Damn, originality isn't
getting a demo from Europe and seeing
some new routine over there and then
'mimicking' it to death. Come on,
surely you are able to produce a demo
without looking at a European demo.
Originality is in, so it's too bad you
follow the Euros in everything you do.
By the way, the language you use in
your artwork does not impress me. I
write C.C. in my own dialect. I have
heard from several people that you do
not talk that way over the phone.
Stick to what you do best, son.
Downloading European demos.

Rules for the "USA GROUP OF THE MONTH"
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-
For all of the past rules, see the
previous versions of C.C. I will only
be adding new rules here. So like we
said before, INC makes the rules as we
go.
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ -+-+-+-+
TOP USA GROUPS of February Last Mo.
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ -+-+-+-+
(1) Intense [2]
(2) ATC (tied for second) [1]
(2) DUH (tied for second) [-]
(2) NEC (tied for second) [1]
*The brackets after the groups show
what position they were last month. A
very bad month for USA releases
compared to last month. The
competition is a bit equal this month,
so let's see which group will take
control of the USA releases next month.
The first controversial game is
Curse of Babylon. Although the date on
the game says 1986, it really is a new
game. The date 1986 is when the IBM
version came out. The other
controversial game is Cabal. The
import worked fine, but the USA version
is completely re-programmed. It's not
like there is a one sprite difference
in the whole game. The whole game has
different graphics, different game
play, and different music. That is why
we have decided to count the game.
-RECAP!-
(1) INTENSE with -2 points-

Rules for the
"IMPORTING GROUP OF THE MONTH"
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-
To see the past rules for the
imports, check the previous editions of
Chaos Chronicle. Only one rule to add
this month. If a group releases a game
that was NTSCed, but another group
releases a version that makes the game
play a lot better and enjoyable, then
that group would take the point. I am
not talking about one little raster
flicker or a mere shaking on the side.
I am talking about something that would
interfere with the game such as a huge
screen flicker or an end monster that
flickers like hell. Don't worry, INC
will decide which group will get the
point. And if the Supreme INC Judges
can not decide, we will split the
point.
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
TOP IMPORTING GROUPS OF FEBRUARY
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
(1) Exodus [2]
(2) Internationl Network of Chaos [3]
(3) Excalibur [1]
*Not a bad month for imports, but one
hell of a month for controversies and
competition. Never Outside by
Excalibur was not 100% working. On the
first screen of the game, move your
joystick to the four arrows. After
doing this, you will see a dot that you
can control at the top of the screen.
Now take the dot and move it all the
way to the left or somewhere around the
vicinity. A line of text on the screen
should say that you are at the SHOP.
Now hit the button, and you shall see
vaam-boom-slurp-barf-ugh-CRASH! INC
also released the fix for N.O., but we
did not spread it anywhere and there
was speculation that our version did
not work either. Fast food was
released by Exodus first, but Excalibur
spread their version very well. Not
only that, but Excalibur had their
version on Wild Warez first, but was
later scratched. No doubt about this
one, point goes to Excalibur. Pub
Trivia was also released by both Exodus
and Excalibur, but this time Exodus
spread their version a lot better.
Space Harrier 2 was released by both
Exodus and Excalibur. Although Exodus
had their version spread extremely
well, the screen flashed white whenever
your man moved. The flash was a bit
annoying, but the game could still be
played. The Excalibur version was
fixed a little better, but their
version still had the white flash in
it, just not as frequent. If the
Excalibur version was 100% fixed, then
they would have received the full
point. After thinking about this for a
while, I decided the only way to be
fair was to split the point. Rainbow
Islands was released by Exodus, but
they later found out that the game
locked up on higher levels, so they
released the 100% fix of the game two
days later. The game still crashed
randomly. What would happen was that
the music would still play, but the
sprites would freeze. Then the
excalibur 101% version came out.
Although it is known that 101% means
that you fixed some type of bug
originally in the game, Excalibur
cheated and lied and put 101%. The
Excalibur version does not have any
flickering in it, but it does lock up
randomly just like the Exodus version.
No point shall go to either group. INC
released Psycho Hopper, but was later
found out that there was a faulty
trainer in the game that caused it to
crash. Five days later, INC prevailed
and released the 100% working version.
-RECAP!-
(1) EXODUS with -2.5 points-
releases:
Pub Trivia - 2/12/90
Space Harrier (half) - 2/16/90
Weird Dreams/NTSC - 2/20/90
(2) INC with -2 points-
releases:
Psycho Hopper/NTSC - 2/22/90
Future Bike Racer - 2/28/90
(3) EXCALIBUR with -1.5 points-
releases:
Fast Food - 2/12/90
Space Harrier (half) - 2/16/90

I polled 16 people this month, one
more than last. Next month I plan on
polling at least 20 people. The way I
choose people is I try to get 3 members
from every group. This should make it
as equal as possible. I also poll
individuals who are not in any groups,
but get the wares and are well known.
Some people that I have polled have
either chose not to answer a question
or did not qualify for them all (I
require that you load up at least 50%
of the wares released). That is why
some of the polls do not have the full
16 votes.

*What sucks about this month is that
the number one game doesn't work. I
guess when the USA version comes out it
will be a big hit. I know towards the
end, the wares get kind of weak, but
there was only 13 games out this month.
I have a feeling that March will be a
good month.

Group News
-+-+-+-+-+
ATC - Looks like these guys are here to
stay. They have been very competitive
in the last three months. Although
they don't release the most, they seem
to stun the other groups by releasing
the big titles. ATC also released the
docs for Starflight. Snake Eyes is no
longer in ATC.
Excalibur - It looked like they were
going to repeat as the #1 group at the
beginning of the month, but seems that
their sword has broken into two. I
don't think that the Lady of the Lake
will mend it for them; she has a marker
up her cunt. They lost Ikari & Talent
and released a game that was rejected
(Exploding Wall). They also added
Asterix and Robodude to the group, but
have labeled Overmind inactive. Let's
see if the rookieness of this group can
handle the heat of real competition.
Exodus - The #1 importing group of the
month. It seems that Executioner
declared WAR on Excalibur in the middle
of the month. Foul play aroused by
both groups such as scratching wares,
threatening calls, and uploading a game
if it was already there. Then there
were some FIXING wars: Excalibur
claimed that Exodus's versions of fixes
were not working. Overall, Exodus
pulled ahead and INC made sure every
release was counted fairly.
Fantasy - Technique was to terminate
the group on March 1st, 1990, but he
has decided to stick around. This
group was struck again by the EAST
BERLIN EFFECT. They lost The Ace,
Tristan Galapoo, and Wanderer. They
also released Metaplex, which was
released by INC a year and a half ago.
It is believed that Fantasy consists of
Crumbsucker, Flyboy, and Technique.
INC - Things are looking good for INC.
They are now trading with Ikari &
Talent again and have been rising in
the charts. INC has labeled The Mind
Slayer as a 'part time fixer', so
expect to see more of his work this
month. INC also released the docs for
X-MEN.
Intense - The #1 group in the USA
charts. I-MAN has now taken over the
C64 scene because Candyman is too busy
on the Amiga and IBM. It is believed
that Ronski is out of Intense and does
not plan to come back.
Mirage - Why did I even bother to
mention them this month? Released at
least 5 USA imports this month, all
which were fully working imports when
they were first put out. If they
continue their bad habits and do not
get any 'real' USA games out, then next
month they will be dropped from the
group news. I thought when they were
tied for #1 last month that they would
try to improve, but instead they fucked
up even more.
NEC - The loss of The Gamer is now
taking its toll. Rumors say that The
Gamer will never return. Was last
month the last time NEC will ever see
the number one spot again? Let us see
what they can pull off. NEC also added
Wanderer.
Occult - More is known about how the
dinosaurs got extinct than this group.
If Excalibur is trading with DCS, then
who are these guys trading with?
TSM - Looks like Hell Hacker has a
computer now, but he doesn't have a
disk drive. I guess it will be another
10 months before this group gets their
act together.

in sequential format. We will accept
articles from anyone, no matter who you

upset is how everyone talks about C.C.
being a good USA newspaper, but no one
wants to write any articles. Damn, it
looks like INC does all of the work,
and failures like you just don't want
to help out. I guess I can understand,
I would be afraid of INC too if I
wasn't in the group myself. If you
feel you have something to write that
you might think everyone would like to

don't call and tell us that "I am going

have the article done, then send it up
and we will tell you if we will use it.
We would like to thank all of the
